Fire Department

History

The O’Leary Volunteer Fire Department was started in approximately 1939 by a group of dedicated and concerned residents. Over the past 80 plus years, the department has grown and progressed into one of the finest in Prince Edward Island, serving one of the largest rural fire districts in the Province.

Members are required to meet certain requirements set by the Province, the town, and by the fire department itself. Training in firefighting and rescue techniques is ongoing, both at the Provincial Fire School and monthly training held at the department.

Today, as in years past, the residents of O’Leary and surrounding areas can feel proud of the men and women, who so freely give up their time, to protect our property and our well-being.
